Accomplished actor Robert De Niro has recently been known for speaking out about things he does and doesn’t like. Donald Trump? He loves to tear into the President. But now he’s shown that he’s also a really great dad.

The Taxi Driver actor has 7 children and he has twins. Julian De Niro and Airyn De Niro are both actors and Airyn recently came out as trans in an interview with Them. And Robert De Niro’s response to his daughter’s coming out is what ever parent should do. “I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter. I don’t know what the big deal is,” Robert De Niro told Variety in a statement. “I love all my children.”

You’d think that would be the baseline response from a parent when their children come out but that is rarely the case. So De Niro was praised for his response to Airyn’s story and it is kind of wonderful to see an older actor so open and loving about his children. This should be the norm but it is sadly not and it is nice to know that Airyn De Niro has loving parents who are there for her.

She told Them about her parents, saying “no parent is perfect, but I am grateful that both my parents agreed to keep me out of the limelight. They have told me they wanted me to have as much of a normal childhood as possible.” But she also shared her inspiration for coming out.

Airyn De Niro is 29 years old and told Them that she looked to women like Laverne Cox and knew that it wasn’t too late to be public about who she was. “Trans women being honest and open, especially [in] public spaces like social media and getting to see them in their success,” she said. “I’m like, ‘You know what? Maybe it’s not too late for me.’”

It’s beautiful to see Robert De Niro being there for his daughter and we’re excited to see what Airyn De Niro does next, who shared a message with her fans on social media. “Thank you to everyone who’s been so sweet and supportive! I’m not used to all these eyes on me,” she wrote. “Also for the folks asking if I have representation or signed to anyone, I am literally just a girl with a phone, so sorry if I miss your messages!”
